My Favorite Place - Dharamshala, India

My favorite place is Dharamshala, a city in the Indian state of Himachal Pradesh. My mother was born and raised there, and I was able to visit the city in December 2019.

This is a photo I took of the Himalayan mountainside and one part of the city.

I found this image on Wikipedia that shows the Dhauladhar mountain range overlooking the city.

  1. WOW, Ish, this is so exciting: Dharamshala... wonderful! What an absolutely beautiful part of India, and such an important place for Indian art, culture, including Buddhist culture too... you will see Kangra paintings as illustrations at the websites I've made for both epics, for example, and we're going to start the semester off with some Buddhist stories from India. I am excited to see what kinds of thoughts and experiences you will be bringing to the class with your India connection.

  2. Hey Ish, your picture looks even better than the Wikipedia image! It's cool that you have actually been able to visit your mother's home city; my mother is from Gujarat (Vadodara specifically), but she has not been back since immigrating back in her childhood. I would love to visit India someday (post-pandemic of course!) to learn more about my own heritage.
